Emma Swan’s Wardrobe

If I asked you which is Emma’s most emblematic outfit you’d probably say it’s her red leather jacket. I totally agree with that. The jacket is not only a modern and fashionable item but also an essential item of its owner that represents part of who she is.

But what about the other amazing outfits she has worn throughout the series? All those elegant dresses and casual pants that made us think “Damn, I want those!”. Emma definitely has used quite some memorable clothes that make her look gorgeous and also, I dare to add, quite badass.

Of course there are many, many outfits I’d love to talk about, but I’m afraid it would take me a bunch of pages to do so because I technically love them all. Because of this, I’m only highlighting a few of them.

From the dress she wore for Mr. Hook to the Camelot gown, here are some of Emma Swan’s outfits that are worth taking a look at.

From Fairytale Land

The red ball gown from the Season 3 finale is by far my favorite gown Emma has worn. It’s simple (it’s not trimmed since it doesn’t have much jewelry or decorative things) but quite elegant and sophisticated. The color itself makes the dress flashy and beautiful. I liked the triangle form of the cuffs as well as the cleavage and the waist. We weren’t able to see them on the show, but Jennifer posted a picture on Instagram of the shoes she was wearing: a pair of heels with two figures of little crocodiles. Well thought, Eduardo Castro. And well, what can I say of the hairstyle? Magnificent! A nice bun with a pair of strings left lose on the sides and a thin silver crown above the head. Quite a princess style!

Being the hero of the story involves (at least in this show) having dangerous swordfights, facing powerful foes, and running throu gh the foggy woods. However, saving the day doesn’t mean the Savior has to look ugly. On the contrary! The outfit from the alternative universe of “Heroes and Villains” was definitely badass! We have the blue vest joined by a nice belt around the waist, a white shirt with brownish gloves and dark pants that, I believe, made it easy for Emma to fight against the ones who tried to stop her from succeeding. I don’t know you, but I think that these clothes definitely looked a lot like Flynn Rider from Disney’s Tangled, which might have made me fangirl a bit, just a bit. The cherry on top was the messy ponytail joined by a small braid on the right side. Nice!

The first thing I said when I saw Emma’s Camelot ball gown was “Awww!!! She looks so cute!”. I mean, she was wearing a flower crown for heaven’s sake! If there’s anything I love is flower crowns, for real. Anyway, putting aside my rant, the details of the laces were just wow! And its color, if you see closely, it’s a tone of off-white. The sleeves were very pretty as well with those laces and small waves in the cuffs. I liked the way it moved when Emma twirled while dancing, it was a beautiful effect. If she ever gets married with Killian (which I’m more than certain that will indeed happen) I do hope the costume designer chooses a dress similar to this one. I’m ranting again, my apologies.

From The Modern World

First date. What do you choose to make the guy who owns your heart see you and say “You
look stunning”? Well, Emma Swan has the answer! She decided to wear a sweet, pale pink dress that made Killian’s jaw drop. It was sleeveless with a long and nice V-neck, a thin belt of the same color above the waist and a series of pleats below that made her look definitely gorgeous. The tall ponytail was also suitable for the occasion; it was a different hairstyle that we hadn’t seen in her. In some way, she reminded me of Grease’s Sandy Olsson, mostly for the cute pale rose dress. Seems like the only one who can reach that sweet, romantic side of Emma is the one and only Captain Hook, isn’t it?

Apart from the iconic red one, Emma has taken out other jackets of different colors that we all wish to have. The one I’d like to mention is the tan leather jacket from Season 4 that she used on several episodes of the first half. Of course it’s not as pompous as the other outfits I’ve mentioned, but I do like it a lot. She chose to wear a basic gray t-shirt and black jeans along with a pair of long grayish booths. I was definitely in love with this one because it’s causal but at the same time quite fashionable. And guess what? It’s not that hard to get the outfit! I have found all the items in different stores and easily inspired myself on the sheriff’s style.

“The Dark Swan is coming”. When I read that for the first time, a million thoughts went through my mind. One of those thoughts was “How is she going to look like?”. I imagined lots and lots of possible outfits during hiatus, but it wasn’t until the first promotional images were posted that we finally had a glance of it. As most of the costumes from Once Upon A Time, the Dark Swan’s one did not disappoint me. A black leather jacket resem
bling a crocodile’s skin, black leggings and short high-heeled boots where the things that made up the outfit. It was dark, dangerous, but also imposing. The dyed hair seemed strange to me at the beginning, but as the episodes went by I got used to it.

Also, let’s not forget about that episode (5×02 “The Price”, to be exact) in which Emma wasn’t wearing the previously mentioned clothing but a black gabardine, a short sleeveless dress and stockings of the same dark color. Don’t ask why she was wearing that, but I also liked it!

Honorable Mentions

The Wench Dress. Many things happened while she wore it (flirting with past Hook at the tavern and then kissing him in the Jolly Roger). And Colin loved it, we all know that.

The Gown from Charming’s Nightmare. The first time we saw Emma wearing a fairytale dress even though it wasn’t real. A resemble of the Swan Lake perhaps?

Young Emma’s Jacket. From that flashback on “Tallahassee” where she wore glasses and a red checked shirt. She looked so nice even while stealing the yellow bug.

Once Upon A … Hiatus

its heere.gif

It’s that time of the year every fan is scared of. Those horrific days of feeling you have nothing to live for. Those moments that seem to be an endless torture of staring at the calendar, counting the months, weeks, days, and even the hours left until your favorite show returns. Yes, hiatus is here *inserts dramatic background music*.

As a fangirl myself I know how ugly these things can be. You feel empty, rather lonely. Social media, specially Twitter, isn’t as interesting as it was before. There is a lack of news about the programs and even about the actors, who are either working on different projects, attending private events or simply enjoying a well-deserved vacation. Yeah, it sucks.

Anyway, you might be thinking what to do with your life during this four-month hiatus in order to survive. You start thinking of all those things you say you’re going to do during the break but don’t know exactly where to start. Well, today’s your lucky day! I decided to share some TV show and book suggestions that can be of help to some of you. It’s not the most astonishing thing on Earth but I think it can be of use.

TV Shows

No series compares to our dear and beloved Once Upon A Time, but there are a bunch of TV shows that can help us survive while it comes back (September 25, please come to us NOW!!).

Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D

Agents of SHIELD returns
Seasons so far: 3 (renewed for a 4th one)

Action: Guaranteed!

Ships: many! And get ready to cry and fangirl with them. It’s a rollercoaster of emotions. Yes, I’m talking to you Skyeward!

Comedy: a hint of it, yeah!

The series shows a group of skilled agents who have to deal with some unusual enemies that go from the merciless people of Hydra to the extremely powerful Inhumans. As the heroes try to save the world, they face constant troubles and unexpected dangers that aren’t easy to defeat. The women here are not only clever but also quite badass. (Skye/Daisy Johnson is totally my favorite!).

I’m personally a Marvel fan, but if you don’t follow the movies nor the comic books you can still understand what’s going on.

The Flashflash

Seasons so far: 2 (renewed for a 3rd one)

Action: Plenty!

Ships: definitely! From WestAllen to Snowbarry and many others that will make your heart beat fast! (pun intended)

Comedy: a hint of it, yeah!

Another one of superheroes, but this time from the DC Comics family. Follow Barry Allen in his journey of becoming a famous speedster who has to deal not only with the task of controlling and understanding his powers but also facing the everyday troubles such as work and romantic relationships. With the help of his friends and allies, The Flash protects Starling City as he tries to find a way to fix the painful past that keeps haunting him.

Same as in Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D, you don’t need to be a follower of the movies nor the comics, the show is understandable.

How I Met Your Mother

Seasons so far: 9 (already ended)

Ships: Yes! (check Marshall and Lilly, they are relationship goals <3)

Comedy: tons and tons of it! You’ll never get enough

Life Lessons: hell yeah!

This hiatus I’m watching this epic show once again because I seriously love it with all my heart! If you haven’t watched it yet, do it! For real, I guarantee you’ll spend a good time laughing and saying “aww” uncountable times.

Its’s the year 2030. Ted Mosby is sitting on a couch in front of his two kids as he tells them he’s going to narrate the anecdote of how he met their mother. However, he doesn’t go straight to that. For them to understand everything, Ted decides to tell the story of his life starting from the year 2005. I’m fan of it not only because the character of Neil Patrick Harris rocks, but also for the fact that it has a lot of amazing guest stars throughout the seasons. (Our amazing JMo appears on season 6 on several episodes as one of Ted’s girlfriends. I have to say, she nails it!)

Dead Of Summer dead

Season so far: 1 (Premieres Tuesday June 28th on Freeform)

Genre: Thriller/Suspense

Yeah, I don’t have an opinion about this show yet because it hasn’t aired but I’m looking forward to watching it! It’s a Horowitz & Kitsis production and it has the Snow Queen and Anna of Arendelle! Okay, obviously not those characters but the actresses who had iconic roles on OUAT: Elizabeth Mitchell and Elizabeth de Lail. The show will follow a group of young campers spending their summer in the just reopened Camp Clearwater. There will be romance, fun… and mysterious murders that will change the campers’ lives forever.

Let’s see what Eddy and Adam have prepared!

Definitely a way of escaping reality and let your imagination take you to marvelous places! Without all the schoolwork and pressure of studying for an exam, I find reading a novel quite pleasant. Here are two suggestions:

mazeThe Maze Runner series

Author: James Dashner

Maybe you’ve watched the movies, but trust me, the books are better. I just finished reading the third one and OMG! Dashner blew my mind!

A young boy wakes up in a mysterious box that’s heading upwards. He doesn’t know a thing except for his name: Thomas. Who is he exactly? Does he have a family? What is he doing there? Thomas is confused; a bunch of questions pop into his mind as soon as he reaches the surface and meets a group of boys his age. None of them can leave the small terrain they have been sent to unless they manage to solve the enigma of the maze. Thomas will have to take the lead and risk everything to save himself and his new friends, even if that means breaking all the rules.

My favorite book was definitely the first one, but the other two are just as great. “The Kill Order” is a prequel, but I haven’t read it yet so…

Author: Diana Gabaldon

Holy s**t! I just started reading this book and I’m already hooked! (ehehehe). I wanted to watch the show, but when I learned there was a book I told myself I needed to read it first. And here I am, enjoying every single page of the book as I keep praising Gabaldon’s writing and style.

It’s the twentieth century. After the war ends, Claire Randall and her husband go on a second honeymoon to the mythical land of Scotland. However, the trip takes a twist when the former nurse visits a circle of ancient rocks that, let’s say magically, transport her back in time. Claire tries to understand the situation she’s going through at the same time she starts falling for Jamie Fraser, a young and handsome Scottish warrior. There are spies, battles, chases and an unforgettable romance that will make you love the story.

(P.S.: I’m so watching the show after finishing the book!)

Once Upon A Time: “Firebird” Review

By: Carolina

The 20th episode of Season 5 was one of the most emotional and intense of the series, showing us not only a dramatic goodbye scene with Emma and Killian, but also the Lord of the Underworld with an ace up his sleeve, not having changed his sinister plans even though he received a true love’s kiss from Zelena. My heart aches after such angst -I don’t even know how I’m able to write this- but let’s make a recap of how our favorite heroes and villains lived the unexpected and stressing moments in last Sunday’s episode:

The Emma flashback was quite meaningful in the character’s life. I mean, Cleo helped Emma become not only that badass bail bondsperson, but also taught her to use an armor to protect herself, to be more rational than emotional. In my opinion, it’s good to have both of them. You can’t always lead yourself through tough situations by only thinking with your mind, sometimes it’s good to also let your heart guide you.

OUAT 5x20 Emma ArmorAnyways, it was gloomy to see Cleo not making it after escaping from the cops, and more when Emma learned that she had been in the same situation: Cleo had given up her child years ago, empathizing with the situation Emma was living as well. So in some way, they were more alike than they thought. The end of the flashback was both sweet and fantastic, Emma telling Tasha about her mother and getting her own armor: the well-known red jacket we all love.

I definitely liked to see those Rumple-Pan scenes. It’s interesting to see how torn and tricky their relationship is, catching certain tension and rage between them. When Rumple took Robin’s heart I definitely hated Rumple. However, when he told his father that he had actually placed a glamour spell on the “heart” and returned Robin his, I felt not only relieved but satisfied. This of course does not justify Gold’s evil ways to get what he wants, but at least he didn’t mess up everything. Seems like we have already seen the last of the former Neverland ruler.

And what about the heroes wanting to help the residents of the Underworld move on? Excellent decision, Henry. I have to admit he’s worthy of being the Author. It’s all about helping others and not thinking selfishly, which I believe it’s one of the greatest messages of the show.

We also saw more of the sisterhood between Regina and Zelena, which I have become very fond of. It’s nice to see them act like a real family after two seasons of wanting to break one another’s neck and destroy the other’s happiness. Robin, on the other hand, was not that convinced when Regina told him to trust The Wicked Witch when it came to hand her their baby. It was hard for him and it’s completely understandable. How many things has Zelena done to them, always deceiving them time after time? I just hope that this perspective changes because, in my honest opinion, I do think that Zelena is changing (let’s just see what happens on next episode since the promo showed a not so friendly Zelena).

Hades! I can’t believe he was willing to leave the heroes back in “Underbrooke”, not caring about them even though he had a deal with them. The only good thing he did was remove their names from the tombstones, but apart from that, he was very determined to get to Storybrooke no matter what. I guess that Zelena wasn’t right at all, love didn’t change the Lord of the Underworld and that is going to bring catastrophic consequences, very likely to include a broken hearted Zelena.

Now, let’s get to the part that made me fangirl but also broke my heart, the highlight of the episode. Emma and Hook ventured themselves to the deepest part of the Underworld with the hope of feeding him with the fruit of Ambrosia so he could finally go home. OUAT tells us Orpheus and Eurydice’s story in a different way than in the original mythology, but it still kept its essence. I love how the show has included Greek stories and the way they have linked them to the core characters.

The True Love test was something I did not expect and for that, I feel marvelously in love with how the writers put it. Unlike the rest, this test was about choosing the one you loved above your own life, which made that moment a magnificent and unique one.

The pirate and the savior sharing one of the most painful and touching farewells in history made me sob uncontrollably the rest of the night. Seriously, how many times do we have to go through this before Captain Swan finally gets a happy, peaceful, angst-free moment? I do hope it’s soon, otherwise my shipper heart won’t be able to handle it.

OUAT 5x20 Emma Hook Bye

Once Upon A Time’s “Firebird” exceeded my expectations, not only for the fact that we had many Captain Swan moments, but also because we got to see a significant time in Emma’s life that left a mark on her. I do like how Henry is getting more and more into his author role and I hope we get to see more of this. My only worry right now is Hades, because he has lied to Zelena and for sure will turn her against her sister and the rest of the heroes.

Finally, I’d like to express how crazy I went with the promo for next week’s episode. We’re not only getting a lot of disagreements between the characters, but also a devastating scene of a funeral, Killian Jones’s funeral! We do know he’s coming back; the question is HOW?

Yeah, it’s gonna be a hard week until Sunday arrives.

Rating: 9.5/10

Once Upon a Time airs Sundays at 7/8 pm.
